An Italian rose gold, granite and micromosaic snuff box

Rome, late 18th century
micromosaic plaque on a copper support tray representing dogs attacking a wild boar. This scene is taken by the German painter Frans Snyder (1579 - 1657). Nicola de Vecchis assumes the SVM like evidenced by numerous documents at the beginning of the nineteenth century. His last work was St. John the Baptist of Guercino at the Vatican School of Mosaic, which remains unfinished in cause of his death in 1841. A similar snuff box was made by the goldsmith Jerome Menazzi and is published at page 105 of the volume of Costantino Bulgari , the Italian goldsmiths and silversmiths gemmari. Bibliography : cf .
